Overview

Puget Sound Swim Club (PSSC) is looking for a qualified and innovative Assistant Age Group Coach. PSSC is a team of about 60+ swimmers ages ranging from 5-18. We currently practice out of South Kitsap High School Community Pool in Port Orchard, WA.  Qualified candidates should send resumes to [email protected]. Duties and Responsibilities

  • With assistance from the head coach, develop and implement a comprehensive, competitive program aimed at athletes ages 18 and younger.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, swimmers, and other coaches (email, phone, team chat, face to face).
  • Coordinate and develop group goals and curriculum with assistance from the head coach.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and team functions as required.
  • Attend one scheduled swim meet per month as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications, Education and/or Experience

  • Prefer candidates to be at least 18 years old but may consider 16-17 years old (Junior Coach).
  • Knowledge and understanding of competitive swimming.
  • Knowledge and experience teaching swimming to a variety of abilities and levels.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Candidates must enjoy working with a diverse group of participants.
  • Grounded and level-headed personality in potentially stressful high energy situations.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • The ideal candidate will have competitive swimming experience.
  • Ability to take constructive feedback in a positive and professional manner.
  • Candidates must become USA Swimming members using the “Coach” membership.
  • Candidate must complete all required USA Swimming Coach Membership Safety and Education Requirements including: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training or Safety Training for Swim Coaches, CPR/First Aid, background check (not required for Junior Coach) and various online educational courses.
  • All coaches must be in “good standing” with USA Swimming prior to coaching on deck at a practice or meet.  This “good standing” status must be maintained at all times.

 

Practice times: Practice times vary (between 1-2 hours per day) based on pool availability but are typically Monday-Friday + potential Saturday practice and meets (local travel required).  Our club’s current practice block is 5-7pm Monday-Friday and 9-11am on Saturday.
